TATTOO REMOVAL QUESTIONS

Tattoo removal uses an ND: YAG Q-switch laser to target pigments in tattoo ink that reside below the skin’s surface; the laser fragments the ink into small pieces. Your body’s natural immune system will then absorb and dispose of the ink. Topical tattoo removal creams sold over the counter are extremely ineffective at removing tattoos. No clinical study to date has shown they actually work.

Tattoo removal lasers are extremely hot and fast; speed and heat are crucial to breaking ink particles apart. To break up an ink particle, you need to zap it with heat, which causes thermal expansion, but the zap has to be fast enough for half of the particle to remain cool. The opposing forces between cool and hot cause the ink particles to separate into smaller pieces. Once the ink has been broken into tiny particles, white blood cells can then absorb them to be carried away by the lymphatic system.

Each person perceives pain differently, so there is no definitive answer to this one. There will be some mild discomfort, often described as similar to a hot rubber band being snapped on your skin. Within minutes of the procedure being finished, most clients report little to no discomfort at all. We can help manage any discomfort with ice packs and topical cream.

The age, location and quality of the tattoo and colours used, combined with your body’s ability to dispose of the ink, will determine the total number of treatments needed. For complete tattoo removal, an average of 6-12 laser tattoo removal treatments will be needed, however every person and tattoo is unique and some might require more, while others will require less. For tattoos that will be covered up, an average of 2-6 laser tattoo removal treatments will be needed, depending on the size and pigment density of your current piece, the desired cover-up tattoo and how comfortable your artists is doing the new tattoo. We will work with you and your tattoo artist to determine how many tattoo removal treatments will be needed. Homemade tattoos often require as little as 4 laser tattoo removal treatments to completely remove, however each tattoo on each person is unique and there will be some variance.

Each person recovers differently, however we generally find 6 weeks between treatments is most appropriate.

In most cases, yes! However, there are no FDA regulations on tattoo ink; several hundred different colours, manufacturers and formulas exist, meaning that different tattoos fade at different rates. Some colours may require more treatments to remove. There is a chance that a slight shadow will remain, we call this ghosting; most clients find this acceptable and consider the removal a success.

Choosing to have your tattoo lightened prior to a cover up will result in a much better quality final tattoo, and is often recommended by tattoo artists. In fact, over 80% of our clients are simply looking to prepare for a cover-up, as opposed to a complete removal. We can stop treatments when your tattoo artist is happy with the result and confident they can give you the new tattoo you desire.

The chances of scarring are very low, however it is possible if aftercare instructions are not followed. There is a slight possibility of hyper-pigmentation or hypo-pigmentation, which we will explain during your initial consultation. Pre-existing scars will still be there after treatment, only ink will be targeted and affected.

Yes. Often times there is a portion of a tattoo that you would like removed and / or covered, we can target only those areas.

Immediately following your session, you will see a white “frosting” over the area where the removal session happened. This temporary byproduct of the removal process is caused by the heat generated by the laser to fracture the ink particles. This substance is very similar to tiny gas bubbles of steam or water vapor. Frosting will disappear entirely within 10-20 minutes of treatment and does not need to be wiped away. Once it is gone, what’s left of the tattoo will be revealed again. See our Before/After removal Gallery for examples of what this will look like.

Wash and clean the skin, and avoid any lotions or body glitter prior to treatment. When you come into the studio, please wear comfortable clothing so we can easily access the tattoo. It is also important to eat a few hours prior to treatment, drink plenty of water and avoid consuming alcohol the night before.

Complete aftercare will be given at the time of removal, including a take home care sheet.

HAIR REMOVAL QUESTIONS

Super Hair Removal (SHR) works by gradually heating the dermis to a temperature that effectively damages the hair follicles and prevents re-growth, while avoiding injury to the surrounding tissue. A series of short, high repetition pulses are delivered deep into the dermis, achieving high average power and therapeutically effective heat build-up, with virtually no pain. The sweeping in-motion technique of moving the applicator repeatedly over the treatment area ensures full coverage while cooled tip technology cools the skin surface – preventing superficial burns and allowing for highly effective hair removal.

Everyone’s hair grows differently, depending on age, weight, metabolism, hormones, hair thickness, the area treated, medications, ethnicity and other factors. Typically, thick dark hairs require 6 to 10 treatments in total. For optimal long-term benefits, treatments are phased to coincide with your hair growth cycle to maximize the percentage of reduction per treatment. After that, annual touch-ups are recommended to remove any new growth.

Hair grows in cycles that consists of three phases – the Anagen phase (active growth), Catagen phase (dormant growth) and Telogen phase (fall-out stage). Hair can only be permanently destroyed during the Anagen phase when hair follicles have an abundance of colour and are being fed by blood vessels. The heat generated by the laser seals off the blood vessels to these active hairs preventing them from growing back.

You can expect 50 – 85% of hairs to be in active growth phase at any given time, but typically only 5-35% of these hairs will contain enough pigment to be permanently reduced. Surviving hairs will come back, but usually weaker and finer in texture. In order for treatments to be effective, our program takes a phased approach to laser hair reduction to coincide with the Anagen phase of hair growth, maximizing the effectiveness of each treatment.

Laser Hair Removal is possible on virtually any area of the body. With a series of treatments – as long as the hair has strong colour – we can treat the face, neck, chest, back, bikini area, legs, and even fingers and toes.

As you’ve most likely experienced, traditional methods like shaving, sugaring, waxing and depilatory creams are only temporary solutions. In contrast, electrolysis sessions are long, painful and often require years of treatments to become permanent. Our medical-grade laser delivers light energy to hundreds of hair follicles at a time, using 3 different wavelengths, helping you save time and money! Our laser treatments program can provide permanent hair reduction in just seconds, while electrolysis would take over an hour for similar effects.

The in-motion technology keeps the hand piece moving constantly and combines with moving cooled tip technology for a truly pain-free treatment. Most clients say they only feel a little warmth and sometimes a tingling sensation. Some clients even find it relaxing and have compared it to a warm massage.

Some clients experience minor redness immediately following a treatment session, this will disappear within a few minutes.

CARBON LASER FACIAL QUESTIONS

A Carbon Laser Facial – also known as the China Doll Facial or Hollywood Peel – reduces the appearance of acne, blackheads, open pores, oiliness, and mottled or dull complexions while stimulating collagen and elastin production. It can also help reduce premature signs of skin aging and the appearance of freckles, pigmented lesions and sunspots.

The Carbon Laser Facial is a unique skin rejuvenation treatment that uses lightning-fast laser technology and medical grade carbon to provide long-lasting skin rejuvenation. We’ll start by applying a layer of liquid carbon that penetrates deep into the pores of the area to be treated. A laser then blasts the carbon away, exfoliating the skin and taking dirt and oil along with it. By cleaning the pores and removing dead skin cells from the epidermal layer you will immediately experience tighter, well-hydrated, more radiant skin. This treatment also helps to provide long-lasting improvement to the underlying structure of the skin by directly boosting collagen – the building blocks for younger, firmer skin.

A Carbon Laser Facial provides immediate results! Following your treatment, your skill will be lighter, brighter, tighter and more radiant. Fine lines and wrinkles will also appear smoother for an overall appearance of fresh, clean and healthy glowing skin. Carbon laser technology has been proven to be an extremely effective treatment for active acne and can also reduce scarring and discolouration caused by past acne.

Carbon laser technology can be used on all skin types to treat most common skin conditions and even has great rejuvenating effects on healthy skin. This treatment is particularly beneficial for people with active acne or oily skin as the treatment reduces acne-causing bacteria while shrinking sebaceous (oil) glands.

If you are taking, or have ever taken, Accutane or similar acne treatment medications, the Carbon Laser Facial is not recommended. Please check with your physician if you have questions or concerns about whether or not your skin is suitable for this procedure.

The number of treatments required will depends on your skin. We typically recommend a course of 6 treatments over 2 months for the best results. However, some people also achieve satisfying results with only one treatment prior to a special occasion such as a wedding.

You will be aware of a warm, slightly tingly feeling in the treatment area; the treatment will not be painful. Many of our clients find the experience to be very relaxing and some even come in on their lunch break for a quick pick me up.

No aftercare is required, you can return to normal activities immediately after your treatment. To maximize your results over time, you should already be taking steps to protect your skin from direct sun exposure year-round. Use a sunblock with SPF to cover exposed skin whenever practical.

Definitely not, carbon laser technology can also provide fantastic rejuvenating effects on other areas of the body such as the tops of your hands or your chest. Ask us about options!

TEETH WHITENING QUESTIONS

Teeth whitening provides immediate results! A single-session treatment lasts 20 minutes and typically results in an improvement of 2-8 shades. A double-session typically results in an improvement of 4-8 shades. The double-treatment is recommended for the most dramatic results. We will take a before and after photo so that you can see the improvements.

It should be noted that the end result has a lot to do with genetics. Some people have naturally whiter teeth than others and so more dramatic results may be achieved for some, and not others. Some people with darker or older stains will want to schedule a second treatment in a few months to maximize their results.

Teeth whitening works by releasing oxygen ions from a tooth whitening gel that gently lifts stains from your teeth. Recent advances in technology have made this process faster and more efficient than ever before. To prepare for the procedure, a barrier will be applied to your gums to create a protective layer against the whitening solution. Using a plastic tray, a water-based whitening gel with an extra oxygen molecule (H2O2) will then be applied to your teeth. A light is used to speed up the chemical reaction of the whitening gel, allowing the process to happen quickly. The extra oxygen molecule helps to gently penetrate through the dentin and enamel, removing discolour proteins and leaving behind a pearly white smile.

You will only need 1-2 treatments for effective results. Each treatment takes 20 minutes, during a double-treatment, you will get a 10 minute break between sessions. To maintain clean and white teeth over time, we recommend returning for treatments every 6 months, the frequency will depend on your consumption of darkening agents like coffee, tea, red wine, and tobacco.

Teeth whitening is not painful, some clients may feel a slight tingle on their gums during treatment – others will experience nothing at all. This is completely normal and any tingling will go away in about 15 minutes. If you have a history of sensitive teeth and gums, you may feel sensitivity from extreme hot or cold the following day, but this is unlikely.

Yes – extensive research and clinical studies have shown that the treatments are perfectly safe. Many dentists consider teeth whitening to be the safest cosmetic dental procedure available. However, there are some groups of people for whom the procedure is not recommended. See below.

Teeth whitening may not be safe for pregnant or breastfeeding women, medical studies have not been conducted to prove this one way or the other, so it is best to avoid the procedure for the duration of pregnancy and nursing. If you have poor gums, wear braces, have weak enamel or other serious oral issues including gingivitis, the procedure is not recommended. Anyone with a history of allergic reactions to peroxide products; people with silver fillings, in, near or behind the front teeth; anyone under the age of 13 should also avoid this procedure.

Unless you have the specific dental health issues or concerns mentioned above, there is no need for a visit to the dentist before your whitening consultation.

For the most part, yes, common stains like those caused by red wine, soda, coffee, tea and tobacco are easily removed. However, certain types of stains are much more difficult to remove, including stains caused by tetracycline, certain antibiotics or excessive fluoride usage. Artificial dental work such as crowns, caps, veneers, bridges and composite fillings will not be harmed by the procedure, but they will never be any whiter than when they were first put in.

Whitening treatments will result in minimal or no sensitivity. Very mild gum irritation (tingling sensation) may occur during the whitening process, but this will only last the length of the treatment. If sensitivity persists, we do recommend using a sensitivity toothpaste however, this is unlikely.

After the treatment, you will need to avoid eating or drinking anything other than pure water for at least 1-2 hours. To maximize your results, you should also avoid coffee, tea, soda, red wine, grape juice and other dark liquids or sauces for at least 24-48 hours following your session.

TOOTH JEWEL QUESTIONS

Swarovski® is considered to produce the finest precision-cut crystals in the world. Their crystals are polished to the highest standards of quality and sparkle like diamonds. Our tooth crystals are made by genuine Swarovski crystals that are stain resistant and have a flat back platinum surface.

Not at all. The procedure is similar to placing an orthodontic bracket (braces) on a tooth. There is no drilling involved and the procedure is completely painless.

The application procedure takes 20 minutes.

Trebbih’s Swarovski Crystals are small in diameter (only 2mm). Initially something on your tooth will feel different, but a few days after the application you will get used to the new feeling.

Both. There are many different designs which appeal to everyone. Children under the age of 16 should have parental consent.

A tooth jewel applied according to our instructions on a natural tooth will stay on until you decide to have it removed by your dental professional.

Our tooth jewelry is 100% reversible. The procedure is the same as attaching an orthodontic bracket (braces). Therefore a dental professional must remove the tooth gem. The tooth will be buffed and polished to remove any remaining bonding material.

When properly placed on a natural tooth, the tooth jewelry will not damage or harm your tooth in any way.

No, the presence of the tooth crystal will not make any difference regarding dental hygiene. However, it is recommended not to use an electric toothbrush for the first 24 hours after the jewel has been attached.

Our crystals have no sharp edges. It will basically come out “the natural way.”

Yes. You can, and should still have your teeth cleaned by a dental professional. Our tooth jewelry will not cause a problem for the hygienist cleaning your teeth. The area underneath the jewel is sealed like a filling and will not let in any bacteria. The hygienist can easily polish on top and around the jewel.
